Il corso sviluppa la capacità degli studenti di comunicare efficacemente in inglese in contesti legati all’architettura e alla progettazione urbana. Attraverso l’esplorazione del patrimonio architettonico, urbano e artistico britannico in diverse epoche storiche, gli studenti acquisiranno un vocabolario specialistico e praticheranno le abilità di comunicazione orale. L’attenzione è posta sulla presentazione di elementi architettonici, sulla descrizione degli spazi urbani e sulla discussione delle influenze artistiche utilizzando un linguaggio accurato e professionale.

Obiettivi formativi
Lingua e comunicazione
• Utilizzare un vocabolario appropriato di architettura e progettazione urbana nell’inglese parlato.
• Realizzare presentazioni orali chiare per descrivere edifici, città e movimenti artistici.
• Partecipare attivamente a discussioni, dibattiti e revisioni guidate relativi all’architettura e alla cultura urbana.
• Descrivere concetti spaziali, materiali, stili e funzioni usando una terminologia precisa.
• Sviluppare la comprensione orale attraverso lezioni, presentazioni e interazioni tra pari.
Conoscenze architettoniche e culturali
• Identificare le principali fasi dello sviluppo architettonico e urbano britannico.
• Riconoscere la relazione tra architettura, arte e contesto sociale nella storia britannica.
• Analizzare elementi architettonici e spazi urbani da prospettive storiche e contemporanee.
• Confrontare diversi stili e influenze culturali nell’architettura britannica.

• Presentare casi studio architettonici utilizzando supporti visivi (disegni, fotografie, piante).
• Condurre brevi visite guidate o walkthrough architettonici in inglese.
• Fornire feedback verbale costruttivo durante revisioni tra pari e critiche progettuali.

È richiesta la conosce della lingua linglese ad un livello minimo B1 del Quadro comune europeo di riferimento per le lingue.

Il corso si terrà in modalità online e sarà basato su lezioni interattive, orientate all’acquisizione di strutture linguistiche e lessico inerente ai contenuti scelti, attraverso i canali della lettura/ascolto. Mediante supporti digitali si provvederà a fornire adeguata riflessione sull’uso della lingua inglese declinata secondo in contenuti specifici del corso.

Presentazione orale, anche mediante supporto multimediale, di un’opera artistica (architettonica, pittorica, etc.) inerente alla cultura britannica. A partire dall’argomento proposto dagli studenti, seguirà una discussione in lingua inglese.

Il docente provvederà a fornire agli studenti le slides utilizzate durante le lezioni e ulteriori materiali di supporto utili a facilitare lo studio individuale.

Il prendere parte alle attività di conversazione e l'interazione durante le lezioni sono altamente consigliate.

This course develops students’ ability to communicate effectively in English within architectural and urban design contexts. Through the exploration of British architectural, urban, and artistic heritage from different historical periods, students will acquire specialized vocabulary and practice oral communication skills. Emphasis is placed on presenting architectural elements, describing urban spaces, and discussing artistic influences using accurate and professional language.

By the end of the course, students will be able to:

• Deliver clear oral presentations describing buildings, cities, and artistic movements.

• Describe spatial concepts, materials, styles, and functions using precise terminology.
• Develop listening comprehension through lectures, presentations, and peer interactions.
Architectural and Cultural Knowledge
• Identify key periods of British architectural and urban development.
• Recognize the relationship between architecture, art, and social context in British history.
• Analyze architectural elements and urban spaces from historical and contemporary perspectives.
• Compare different styles and cultural influences within British architecture.
Professional Skills
• Present architectural case studies using visual support (drawings, photos, plans).
• Conduct short guided tours or architectural walkthroughs in English.
• Provide constructive verbal feedback during peer reviews and design critiques.

Knowledge of English language at B1 level (CEFR) is required.

Online lectures will be given with the aim to allow students to acquire linguistic structures as well as specific vocabulary, pertinent to the selected topics, through reading and listening activities. Digital tools and materials will be used in order to provide students with an appropriate linguistic reflection related to the contents of the course.

Oral presentation, also supported by digital tools, of an artwork (paintings, sculptures, buildings, urban environment, product, etc.) related to British culture.
A follow-up conversation will be conducted.

Extra materials and worksheets will be provided during the course.

It is highly recommended to attend classes as well as to join speaking activities in an interactive and fruitful way.
