The Programme Coordinator receives students on Tuesdays from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. for matters related to the degree programme, upon request sent by e-mail.

The Master’s Degree Course in “Architecture – Regeneration of Built Environment (ARBE)”, entirely taught in English and with compulsory attendance of at least 70% of the total lesson hours, welcomes both Italian and foreign students and trains architects capable of providing culturally and technically appropriate answers to the challenges of the next future: first of all, those related to climate change and reduction of soil consumption, that represent a priority goal today, not only in Europe. To this end, the course provides the theoretical and technical skills needed to design, implement and manage regeneration interventions on existing buildings and urban fabrics, with specific attention to those built during the second half of the twentieth century. In fact, the challenges of the near future require architects with renewed competencies and technical skills useful to rethink what already exists, by re-designing, recovering and reusing, in a multi-scalar perspective, degraded and abandoned buildings, areas, public spaces and green areas.

Educational Goals

The master’s degree Course in Architecture - Regeneration of Built Environment is designed to train a professional profile with the knowledge, skills and competences required by the European Directive 2013/55/EU for architecture training; therefore, it aims at training a European practitioner.

The Course, in compliance with the training contents of the Italian LM4 class, has the specific objective of training a professional profile capable of dealing with the challenges of the contemporary world in an innovative way, with particular attention to the objectives of counterbalancing climate change and reducing soil consumption.

To this aim, the course provides theoretical and technical skills useful to design, implement and manage regeneration interventions of existing buildings and urban fabrics, taking into account a plurality of dimensions: functional, aesthetic, technical, environmental, economic and social.

The learning path is based on the integration of different disciplines, such as architectural and urban design, history of architecture and cities, structure design, energy and environmental design of built environment, urban planning, restoration of built heritage – useful to train an architect capable of dealing in an innovative way, with suitable methodologies and mastery of the techniques, individually or within multidisciplinary teams, the processes of conception, implementation and management of recovery, redevelopment, climate adaptation, and reuse interventions of existing building and urban fabrics.

The Course gives a further possibility of international training providing a Double Degree with Okan University of Istanbul (Turkey) and the East China Normal University of Shanghai (China).

Job Opportunities and Prospects

The Master's Degree in Architecture - Regeneration of Built Environment trains a professional profile with knowledge, skills and competences as required by DIRECTIVE 2013/55/EU for training in architecture. It provides an academic qualification that allows enrollment in the architects’ professional register section A after passing the professional practice examination. The qualification allows high-level responsibilities in Institutions, public and private authorities, design studios operating in the fields of construction, recovery and transformation of existing buildings and regeneration of urban fabrics.

Admission Requirements

The Call for Admission to the master’s degree Course in Architecture - Regeneration of Built Environment is annually published (between June and July) on the Vanvitelli University website.

The requirements for eligibility at the master’s degree Course in Architecture – Regeneration of Built Environment are:

A first level degree in the Italian Class L-17 (Science of Architecture), which entitles to admission without educational debits;
A first or second level degree in another class, or another equivalent qualification obtained abroad and recognized as suitable, following the verification of the curricular requirements and the adequacy of personal preparation according to defined criteria and methods by the Academic Regulations of the Study Programme; in particular, the student who comes from a degree class different from the L17 must firstly complete the training activities (108 CFU) shown in the table relating to the degree in Architecture L17 (Ministerial Decree 16 March 2007 - Discipline of course classes master's degree).
A certified knowledge of the English language at a level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). The procedures for verifying knowledge of the foreign language are defined in the Course's Educational Regulations.

International students residing abroad and requiring visa must pass through a prior university pre-enrolment procedure, which precedes the subsequent enrolment phases at the Master Course.

Within the UNIVERSITALY portal all the information for the completion of pre-enrolment requests will be found, aimed at facilitating the admission of candidates to the Master Course.

Foreign students must have a Bachelor degree in Architecture or equivalent (e.g. Architectural Engineering), a knowledge of the English language at a level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) and a knowledge of the Italian language at a level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). For those who do not meet the last requirement, the level of knowledge of the Italian language will be evaluated by a commission made up of professors teaching in the Master Course and, in case of insufficient evaluation, the student will be required to attend the Italian language courses offered, free of charge, by the University through the Rosetta Stone platform and passing an exit test that certifies the improving of their initial knowledge. Knowledge of the Italian language is a prerequisite for enrolling in the degree session. Students of Italian nationality from foreign universities are exempt from this obligation.
