Metodologie didattiche | Sono previste lezioni frontali, seminari, esercitazioni e sopralluoghi.

Contents | The course aims to provide knowledge and skills necessary for the recognition and understanding of values sedimented in design objects as well as in the technical-cultural processes that have superintended their production, in order to acquire the criteria, methods and practices aimed at their conservation. Not unlike any other cultural heritage testimony, to protect these objects – as well as the know-how that produced them - preliminarily, it is necessary to acquire in a timely manner tangible and intangible meanings embodied in them, with respect to which the conservative project design must be set and declined. The recognition and understanding of their values and the design of the safeguard and enhancement intervention form, in fact, a logical succession of methods, whose principles, approaches and practical applications substantiate the contents of this teaching. |

Course objectives | The course aims to provide knowledge and skills functional to the development of criteria and methods aimed at the recognition and understanding of the values sedimented in the objects of use of consolidated constitution, especially when serial production, and to the knowledge of the theoretical foundations and methods of intervention responsible for their conservation. From the perspective of preservation, the didactic path aims to develop in students the knowledge, in particular, of the processes that, from theory to practice, have historically superintended the production of such objects, both when aimed at direct uses, and if made to be used within architectural or urban contexts. The aim is to learn to grasp the cultural meanings embodied in each of these objects, to the protection and enhancement of which the conservation project must be addressed. In this scenario, the course also promotes the knowledge of the technical wisdom (mastery) of historical constitution these objects witness, to whose conservation and, where possible, enhancement the preservation design project is also explicitly targeted. |
Prerequisites | Basics of drawing, especially of technical drawing, as well as of the geometric survey, the techniques of digital representation and photography. Fundamentals of the history of architecture and the history of design. |
Teaching methods | Lectures, seminars, exercises, and on-site inspections are planned. On these activities, it is required to draw up reports, according to the methods, from time to time, explained by the professor. The exercises to be prepared during the course are essential material for the overall evaluation of the work done by each student, as well as for passing the exam. |
Evaluation methods | Students will have to elaborate individual reports on the activities carried out during the course and on the topics assigned by the professor, in the forms and methods explained from time to time. To pass the exam, it is also required to elaborate a graphic project proposal aimed at the conservation and restoration of an artifact assigned by the professor or chosen per her. The revisions of the reports and design projects are an integral part of the didactic activities. During the exam, the degree of acquisition of the skills and knowledge achieved concerning the didactic objectives indicated will be evaluated, namely, the ability to recognise and understand the meanings sedimented in the artifacts covered by the design project proposal, the reasons for their conservation and the criteria and methods of the practices intended for their protection and enhancement. These acquisitions - to verify which two questions will also be asked on the theoretical contents of the teaching - will be evaluated in the complexity of the topics addressed during the course. |
Other information | The reports and the preservation design project proposal must be delivered during the examination in digital format |
Course Syllabus | Literacy on the lemmas of restoration and conservation |
